1. Study of Parathyroid Hormone Related Proteins (PTHrP) effects on prostate cancer.

PTHrPs are associated with prostate cancer in the bones. The various PTHrP related protein segments are studied to find which segments are responsible for the most destruction in the bones. This will enable us to develop diagnostic tests and therapeutic agents related to destruction of bones by prostate cancer. Two papers have been published on this work.

2. Treating prostate cancer with Photodynamic Therapy (PDT).

Using a photodynamic agent on 4 dogs, we were able to introduce ultrasound-guided optical fibers into the prostate gland. Laser light pulses through the fibers into the gland activated the agent. Microscopic examination of the treated dogs revealed destruction of prostate cells only, without any damage to surrounding tissue. More work is needed.

3. New 13-MTD Study with larger number of mice.

We have done a study with a small number of mice to demonstrate on a small scale the prevention or suppression of metastatic cancer to the lymph nodes. A larger study with 25 mice in the treatment and control arms is needed. We will assess primary tumor weight and progression to the bones. The GFP fluorescence technique will be used to assess metastatic progression. Drs. Jack Geller and Israel Barken will do this work at AntiCancer.
