"PC-REF is a non-profit foundation founded in 1997 to empower prostate cancer patients through education and collaboration. Led by Dr. Israel Barken, PC-REF funds seed money grants to initiate innovative research, bridging the gap for new treatment ideas. Operating with private funding, PC-REF keeps patients informed about medical developments, offering comprehensive coaching combining conventional and alternative approaches. In patient Education and Support, PC-REF:

  • 1. Ask DrBarken.WordPress.com : A Video Blog providing and interpreting the latest research news.
  • 2. PC-REF published a cookbook with prostate-healthy recipes.
  • 3. PC-REF provided grants for men's classes in Mind-Body Healing techniques such as meditation and visualization in cooperation with the Wellness Community, San Diego.

In prostate cancer Research, PC-REF:

  • 1. Provided seed money to get promising research projects off the ground.
  • 2. PC-REF completed and presented a soy study in cooperation with Anticancer, Inc. and EcoNugenics, Inc.
  • 3. PC-REF developed a protocol to evaluate a proposed prostate cancer prevention regime in high-risk populations.
  • 4. PC-REF collaborated on a study of photodynamic therapy in dogs that has important applications in treating prostate cancer in humans.
  • 5. PC-REF studied the effects of cryosurgery on the immune system in mice.
  • 6. PC-REF funded studies in cooperation with a research facility in Texas on interferon protocols in mice.
  • 7. Is studying the effect of bisphosphonates on bone metastases in mice injected with a human prostate cell line.
  • 8. PC-REF recently funded two new projects on the relationship of Parathyroid Related Hormones (PTHrPs) to bone destruction in prostate cancer and the effectiveness of Pamidronate in preventing bone metastases.
  • We have provided over $200,000 in seed money grants for new research. Your financial support is needed to continue this work.

Mr. Justin Schorr , the president and Co-Founder of "Kiltted to Kick Cancer". The organization made a genrerous donation to PCREF to enable to launch CryoImmunology Research in the lab. The research is onging and needs additional funds for completion of the project.
